Made entirely solo in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare 53 compo.

A difficult NES-style platformer where you must escape from a volcano in order to deliver an important package! Jump off walls and use your grappling hook to quickly traverse 12 short areas of the volcano while avoiding proximity bombs, flying slimes, and other things.

Made with Godot 4.0.2. Music and sound effects made with Dn-Famitracker and Audacity. Art made with GraphicsGale. Fonts by JapanYoshi. Thanks to Tea Follet for the new cover art.

BIG FAN! I guess I got a little enthusiastic about the game because I downloaded the godot files and made a few tweaks x)

Changing some sprites and modifying the lava speed & its y position for every level to make lava more exciting. Even changed the volcano picture at the end and made a title screen but I didn't know how to implement it in godot.

OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS. If I make a post-jam version I will add this if that's okay with you (along with any other updates I think are good).

The lava speed (technically it should be called magma but I wrote lava in the code lol) is one thing I found really hard to balance. It's definitely too nonthreatening as it is, but making it faster often made levels too difficult in the start. I tried making it speed up if it's sufficiently far away from you, but this messed up some of the levels.

Can I see the updated project file? I'm really curious lol

Sure! Feel free to use it for a post-jam version, it would be an honour!

The lava isn't that threatening indeed except at the start of the level. That's what I tried to change for the most part. Here's a link of all the changes I made:

There is a sheet for lava_speed and a folder containing a few slightly changed sprites.

Thanks. I REALLY like your updated volcano graphic. The sprite color changes do look good but I was trying to stick with NES palette (not sure if you were too but it doesn't line up with the specific NES palette I was using, the one in the sprites folder).

I'd have to do some testing on lava speed, though it will be a while before I feel like working on this game again, if at all. If I come back to it I will test your speeds and maybe find a compromise (like making it speed up after a certain delay).

I might use your title screen as the new icon for the game if that's okay (I would credit you of course). I think it's way cooler and more eye-catching than the current one which I threw together in like 10 minutes.

I tried to stick to NES colours but maybe the palette I used was wrong haha.I admit I cheated for the platforms and spikes, I used invalid colours.

I'm glad you liked my title screen/volcano. You can use them of course, but don't feel pressured or anything right. It's ok if you don't make a post-jam version. I just got carried away one afternoon lol.

Oh yeah I'm curious, what does the writing on your title screen literally say? I can't read Japanese but I figured out the blue part means ninja lol

The download link doesn't work here, I had to go to the Ludum Dare Page.
